The “leaky pipeline” phenomenon succinctly describes such disappearance of women and girls as they progress with their pathway, study and careers in STEM. Since girls and women face different barriers depending on where they are located on their pathway, policy interventions should be geared towards minimizing gender gaps in participation rates in STEM.
