Mr. Mohammad Younus took on the role of the Resident Representative of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bhutan in November 2022.
With over 25 years of experience, Mr. Younus has served in various positions and capacities in UNDP, both at headquarters and in the field. Prior to his current appointment, Mohammad served as Senior Crisis Country Advisor at UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific (RBAP), New York. He has also served as Chief/Head of the South and West Asia Cluster, based at the UNDP Regional Hub for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand (2017-2021).
Mr. Younus's other assignments include Deputy Chief of the South and West Asia Division, New York (2011-2016), Programme Advisor, UNDP Regional Bureau for the Arab States (2006 - 2010) and Programme Advisor, UNDP Bureau of Crisis Prevention and Recovery (2001-2006).
In his previous roles, Mr. Younus covered various country profiles - from (Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to Middle Income Countries (MICs) and crisis countries - from North Africa to the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific. He has overseen the formulation and implementation of a diverse set of programmes addressing a range of development issues, i.e., climate change, disaster risk reduction, governance and public sector innovation, youth engagement/ employment and private sector development.
Before joining the UN in 2001, Mr. Younus was a member of the Afghan Civil Society Community and an active member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL). ICBL led the global campaign that led to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty and won the Noble Peace Prize in 1997. He was also a founding member of the Afghan Campaign to Ban Landmines (ACBL).
Mr. Younus holds a Masters in Global Affairs/International Relations and Diplomacy from the Fairleigh Dickenson University, USA.

Mr. Khurshid Alam took on the role of Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Bhutan in September 2021.
A passionate advocate for an equitable, multilateral and resilient world, Mr. Alam's work spans over 25 years in 50 countries in Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe.
He contributed significantly to advancing the theory and practice of climate and disaster resilience and played a critical role in responding to numerous international crises.
His career combines an array of leadership, consulting, and brief media roles. Before his UN career, he was the Managing Director of ThinkAhead Limited, a UK-based consulting company; and at ActionAid, also based in the UK in various roles, including as the International Tsunami Programme Director and Global Policy Advisor.
Prior to joining UNDP Bhutan, he was with UNDP Bangladesh Country Office, holding a dual role of the Assistant Resident Representative and Head of the Inclusive Growth and Resilience Portfolio with eight practice areas and an annual delivery of over US$50 million.
A frequent keynote speaker, he authored three books and numerous journal articles - and has been engaged in major inter-governmental processes.
He is a self-proclaimed post-humanist and futurist - believes in planetary health first philosophy. He loves collecting arts and antiques – is an admirer of world music, politics, and history.
Mr. Alam is from Bangladesh. In 1998, he married Farzana Afrin, a statistician by training. They are proud parents of two daughters.
