UNDP Regional Director Ms. Ivana Živković Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting BiH's Sustainable Development and Economic Resilience

Ms. Ivana Živković, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, visited Bosnia and Herzegovina between 21 and 23 October, emphasizing UNDP’s commitment to sustainable development, economic resilience, and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path. During her visit, Ms. Živković participated in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Economic Forum and held several meetings with representatives of BiH authorities and international partners, including the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, the newly appointed Director of the Regional Cooperation Council, the Director of the Directorate of Economic Planning, and the High Representative.
In her meeting with Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, H.E. Mr. Staša Košarac, Ms. Živković highlighted UNDP’s support for Bosnia and Herzegovina in bolstering climate resilience and sustainable development, underscoring the value of joint efforts on projects funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF). Ms. Živković noted the Ministry's and UNDP's joint efforts on accelerating the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supporting a green, inclusive future for Bosnia and Herzegovina in areas spanning climate action to eco-tourism.
Ms. Živković also met with the newly appointed Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Secretary-General, Amer Kapetanović, where they discussed enhancing regional cooperation in areas such as digital transformation, women’s economic empowerment, and small arms control.
In her meeting with Director of the Directorate for Economic Planning (DEP), Zoran Željko, Ms. Živković expressed her satisfaction with the ongoing collaboration on the systemic implementation of the SDGs. She emphasized the importance of working together to strengthen economic planning capacities and ensure long-term growth in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During her discussion with High Representative Christian Schmidt, Ms. Živković shared updates on UNDP’s initiatives in governance and social cohesion, emphasizing UNDP’s role in supporting dialogue and cooperation across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As UNDP’s Regional Director for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, Ms. Živković’s visit reaffirmed UNDP’s dedication to collaborating with national and regional partners to build a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her meetings underscored the strength of partnerships with government institutions, civil society, and international organizations to accelerate Bosnia and Herzegovina’s progress toward EU integration and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
