Future of Sustainable Growth
Sustainable Growth Sector
As per the Country Programme Document for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2021-2025, UNDP aims to promote sustainable and inclusive growth through specific interventions.
Key intervention areas that fall under the Sustainable Growth Sector projects implemented by UNDP include:
1. Supporting BiH's economy in the green and digital transition
2. Building capacities of BiH authorities to improve and design relevant policies that foster sustainable and competitive economic growth
3. Supporting rural development and the modernization of the agriculture sector
4. Supporting the development of the skills for the future jobs
5. Increasing the resilience of the country's private sector to external shocks and mitigating the negative effects of the COVID-19 crisis
How we do it
UNDP supports Bosnia and Herzegovina's green and digital economy and sustainable rural development by strengthening institutions and the private sector. We support the development of gender-sensitive policies and financing instruments to foster sustainable and competitive economic growth. This includes policy frameworks for sustainable agriculture, rural development, and circular and digital economy. Our Sustainable Growth Sector leverages data, technology, and innovation to increase competitiveness, resilience, and sustainable economic development. In addition, we provide technical assistance, financial support, and business advisory services to MSMEs, advancing digital skills and operational capacities.
We prioritize improving the competitiveness of the agriculture sector and creating sustainable jobs in rural areas, including rural tourism. We collaborate with partners and donors such as well as public sector institutions, business resource hubs, and academic communities. Our focus on gender equality and women empowerment aligns with UNDP's Gender Equality Strategy 2022-2025. Through our projects and interventions, we have created over 6,000 new jobs and enhanced the capabilities and skills of employees in more than 1,200 companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2013.
Partnerships
Partnerships are a cornerstone of UNDP's work. Major partners and donors we work with within the Sustainable Growth Sector include the European Union (EU), the Government of Italy, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Czech Development Agency (CzDA), and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), among others.
