Distinguished Guests, and Youth Representatives,

It is an honor to be here for the second Youth Knowledge Forum, hosted by Egypt under the patronage of Minister Ashraf Subhi. 

I extend heartfelt thanks to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, and especially to CEO Jamal bin Huwaireb, for their vital support and for bringing us together to discuss themes of immense importance to our region.

This year’s forum focuses on the opportunities and challenges of the modern age, reflecting the aspirations of young people across Egypt and beyond. At UNDP, we see youth as the change-makers of today, not just tomorrow. However, rapid global changes often leave them struggling to keep up, despite their technical skills.

It’s a common misconception that digital skills alone ensure progress. Many young people face challenges even with technical expertise—they may lack guidance, not know how to apply their skills, or struggle with a complex job market. UNDP is committed to addressing these issues, ensuring that young people are equipped and empowered to excel and lead.

Youth today confront rising unemployment, rapid technological shifts, a changing labor market, and urgent climate issues. These are not just obstacles but opportunities to redefine learning, working, and leading in the 21st century. Our role at UNDP is to help turn these challenges into stepping stones for a better future.

In Egypt, our commitment to youth has achieved impactful results. Over the past year, nearly 35,000 young people have received career guidance and mentoring. Additionally, we have provided entrepreneurship training to over 7,800 youths across 15 governorates, helping them turn their ideas into successful ventures.

We recognize that the future of work is digital, green, and inclusive. Our Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator supports 50 SMEs annually, with 60% youth-led, helping them innovate and create jobs. We also focus on connecting youth with MSMEs for valuable experience and green initiatives. Our cybersecurity training for women and girls has led to 80% of graduates securing immediate employment, showcasing real-life success stories.

Yet, our work is far from over. We aspire to reach further and ensure no young person is left behind. I urge all—ministers, policymakers, educators, and especially the youth—to engage deeply in today’s discussions. The challenges we face are complex but resolvable through collaboration.

Ministers, your leadership is crucial in driving initiatives that transform lives and foster innovation. Youth, your energy and creativity inspire us to push boundaries and strive for a world where you can thrive.
