Government officials and experts from Ethiopia, China and Sri Lanka have completed a three-day online capacity-building workshop gaining practical knowledge on South-South Cooperation in renewable energy technology transfer, low carbon development and sustainable transition as well as green financing.

The workshop, held 23-25 November 2022, was organized as part of the Biogas, Biomass and Solar Trilateral Cooperation Project.

UNDP is partnering on the project with the Ministry of Commerce of China (MOFCOM), the Ministry of Water and Energy of Ethiopia (MoWE), the Ministry of Science and Technology of China - the Administrative Centre for China’s Agenda 21 (MOST-ACCA21), and China Agricultural University (CAU). The project supports the Government of Ethiopia in ensuring energy access and sustainable resource consumption through trials and demonstrations of biogas and solar energy for productive uses.

The three-day online workshop brought together more than 40 participants and was hosted by the MOST-ACCA21 in collaboration with the UNDP, the MoWE, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA), Fudan University and CAU.

Participants from MoWE, SLSEA, MOST-ACCA21, Fudan University, CAU and UNDP exchanged knowledge on new trends and innovative approaches to South-South Cooperation in renewable energy technology transfer. 

The Biogas, Biomass and Solar Trilateral Cooperation Project seeks to help Ethiopia address sustainable development challenges and the need to disseminate renewable energy technology and scale up for climate-resilient growth.
