Improving the Rule of Law and Access to Justice for All
OVERVIEW
This project aims to strengthen the principles of the rule of law in Georgia, enhancing resilience and access to justice for vulnerable communities. We prioritize disadvantaged and marginalized groups, such as persons with disabilities, rural populations, women, ethnic minorities, and communities facing environmental threats. Additionally, we focus on improving crisis management and socio-economic resilience for refugees and Ukrainian nationals residing in Georgia.
With funding of US$1,627,701 from Germany, UNDP spearheads this initiative in collaboration with the Georgian authorities, civil society organizations, and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. We also engage in regional cooperation with civil society organizations and rule of law professionals from Armenia, Moldova, and Ukraine, while maintaining coordination with the German Embassy in Tbilisi.
What We Do
The project contributes to three long-term objectives:
- Objective 1: Strengthening the capacities of national rule of law institutions to provide accountable, effective, and equitable justice services for all.
- Objective 2: Establishing and implementing measures for crisis management and socio-economic resilience, benefiting those fleeing conflict, violence, and persecution, including Ukrainian nationals residing in Georgia.
- Objective 3: Enhancing regional cooperation to facilitate the exchange of experiences on the rule of law among Armenia, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine.
To accomplish these goals, UNDP implements cross-sectoral and multi-dimensional interventions in partnership with various governmental and non-governmental entities. Our collaboration extends to the judiciary, Legal Aid Service, Mediators Association of Georgia, State Care Agency, State Ministry for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Training Centre of Justice, regional municipalities, local businesses, and international/non-governmental organizations, as well as community groups.
Our project activities encompass institutional and human capacity building, interventions to improve infrastructure accessibility, awareness-raising campaigns, support for socio-economic resilience, and educational engagements with youth groups. Through these comprehensive efforts, we strive to drive transformative change and promote a more just and inclusive society.
