The Government of Guinea-Bissau through the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Integration with the support of the UNDP launched the National Blue Economy Strategy. A crucial step towards promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
The development of the National Strategy and Investment Plan for the Blue Economy 2024-2030 was supported by the UNDP. This plan aims to maximise the country's sectoral advantages, promoting job creation, stimulating trade, developing sustainable and resilient tourism and fishing, and ensuring that no one is left behind.
The launch event was attended by representatives of the government, the fishing sector, civil society and national and international organisations, as well as the diplomatic corps in the country.
During her speech, the UNDP Resident Representative in Guinea-Bissau, Alessandra Casazza emphasised, ‘We must remember that Guinea-Bissau is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, and it is necessary to ensure that the benefits of the Blue Economy are shared equally among all citizens, particularly those in coastal communities that are most directly impacted by changes in the marine environment,’ said Casazza.
The UNDP reiterates its commitment to supporting the Government of Guinea-Bissau in all spheres of development and thus strengthening the collective commitment to building a prosperous and resilient future for all.
