September 9, 2014 is considered one of the most important days for the State of Kuwait and the United Nations. It is the anniversary of naming Kuwait by the former Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon as “Humanitarian Center” and the late Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God rest his soul, as the  ”Humanitarian Leader”.

This high international status and recognition didn’t come just like that. We know that there are values ​​associated with the concept of humanity, such as charity, giving, respect, sympathy, feeling with others, etc. We also know that humanity helps everyone to live with dignity and security because it enhances the moral values ​​of society such as justice and integrity and stands against violence and crimes. There are many concepts associated with humanity such as human rights, development, equity, inclusion and sustainability.

The recognition of the UN to the State of Kuwait is an appreciation to the State of Kuwait “Leader, Government and nation” for upholding all qualities and concept of humanity mentioned above reflected in actions done by Kuwait since its membership with the United Nations in 1963.

In terms of working for Sustainable Development Goals, the State of Kuwait, through the Kuwait Fund for Development and other institutions , works to finance projects that contribute to achieving the goals, most notably poverty reduction, and other goals include giving priority to the agricultural sector in order to enhance food security, as well as paying attention to the education and health sector due to its important role in supporting the sustainable development efforts.

Likewise, the State of Kuwait, through the Fund and other institutions, finances projects that use high-level technologies to raise their efficiency in the areas related to infrastructure, such as power and water generating stations, irrigation, agriculture, road network management systems, renewable energies, environmental protection, and natural resources.

We at the United Nations Development Programme “UNDP”s, are proud of our distinguished relationship with the State of Kuwait and the role it plays in the international development, whether through the national projects implemented inside Kuwait or those implemented in other countries with the support and assistance of the State of Kuwait to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, as well as Kuwait’s future vision 2035. Humanity is worthy of them in every detail and detail, and it is a precedent that did not happen before 2014 and did not happen after that until this day. Kuwait deserves it.
