(New York, September 19, 2022). The agreement was signed in New York between Sergio Díaz-Granados, Executive President of CAF, and Luis Felipe López-Calva, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Executive President of CAF, Sergio Díaz-Granados, stated that "the signing of this Memorandum strengthens and energizes our cooperation with UNDP, and seeks to promote, sustainable development, poverty eradication, women empowerment, better governance and rule of law, among other things. Latin America and the Caribbean is facing a period of great challenges, as well as great opportunities. Given this, it must be emphasized that multidimensional progress and the achievement of the SDGs are possible in the region, for which it is vital to work hard and together with all the actors of society with the sole purpose to ensure people’s well-being beyond economic income and without leaving anyone behind.”
“Our secretary-general has called for not wasting a moment in seeking actions that reinforce the work towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and prevent further setbacks in human development after the pandemic and the multiple crises that affect the world today. This alliance represents part of our commitment to this call. By uniting the resources and knowledge of both organizations, we are better prepared to achieve the 2030 Agenda and achieve inclusive, resilient and prosperous societies”, said Luis Felipe López-Calva, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The scope of the partnership includes knowledge exchange and support for projects in the areas of democratic governance, including public sector reforms; digitization; capacity building initiatives; climate action, including efforts for disaster risk reduction and green finance; SDGs bonds; and gender equality, among others. The agreement will also support the organization of events, especially in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of CAF's observer status at the United Nations.
Within the framework of this partnership, and in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of CAF's status as an observer to the United Nations, both organizations joined forces with the social innovation platform Detonante, to bring to life “Por todos; El Cambio Posible”. This will be a multi-platform content strategy that seeks to highlight projects in Latin America and the Caribbean that are committed to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the fulfillment of the 17 SDGs. It will feature diverse voices from Latin America, experts, entrepreneurs, social leaders, and artists to raise the voice of the region.
