SLM Project

Mainstreaming Sustainable Land Management and Biodiversity Conservation in the Republic of Mauritius

Rapid urbanisation, changes in land use and unsustainable agricultural practices are some of the causes of land degradation in Mauritius and Rodrigues. The Global Environment Facility(GEF), through a USD 1.7 million grant, will support the Government of Mauritius to:

  1. Improve institutional and policy frameworks to improve Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) planning and mainstream Sustainable Land Management (SLM).
  2. Develop skills, tools and incentives to pilot and implement Sustainable Land Management practices.
  3. Upscaling the adoption of SLM and ILM though better knowledge managements and gender mainstreaming.

This project will help the Government of Mauritius stop the drivers of land degradation and help restore soil and achieve Land Degradation Neutrality.
