Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are collectively responsible for almost 71% (41 million) of all deaths worldwide. UNDP is working closely with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to provide technical support for its initiatives aimed at prevention of and awareness on the NCDs.

Each year, 15 million people die from an NCD between the ages of 30 and 69 years; Over 85% of these "premature" deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries. 
Cardiovascular Diseases account for most NCD deaths, or 17.9 million people annually, followed by Cancers (9.0 million), Respiratory Diseases (3.9million), and Diabetes (1.6 million). NCDs are estimated to account for 63% of all deaths in India of which Cardiovascular Diseases lead with 27% overall mortality followed by Chronic Respiratory Diseases (11%), Cancers (9%), Diabetes (3%), and Others (13%).

Aims:

• To support the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in strengthening the implementation of the Non-Communicable Disease control programme across the states.

• To replicate the TSU model at the state levels 

Achievements:

• Supporting in National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) implementation of the Government of India.

• Supporting in preparation of comments and summary of Program Implementation Plan for National Programme Coordination Committee meeting in budget preparation of State/UTs.

• Part of working group of National Multi-sectoral Action Plan. 

• Part of working group of the Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Operational Guideline and acknowledged in contribution of “Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Operational Guideline” by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
