Jakhongir Khaydarov has been appointed as Head of the UNDP Cyprus Office in June 2021. Before working for UNDP Cyprus, during 2015-2021, Mr. Khaydarov worked with UNDP Pakistan as Head of the Sub Office in Peshawar and the Programme Manager for the Strengthening Rule of Law Programme. Mr. Khaydarov began his career at UNDP in 2012 as the Chief Technical Adviser for Judicial Strengthening in UNDP Bangladesh.
Prior to joining UNDP, between 2008-2012, Mr. Khaydarov served as the Director of the Research Center for Justice and Rule of Law Reforms with the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan. Between 2004-2008, he was the Head of Coordination and Analysis Unit in the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia. He also worked as the Country Manager for USAID Projects in Central Asia and as a Legal Adviser with Booz Allen Hamilton.
Mr. Khaydarov has also taught “Research Methods in Law” and “Law of International Organizations” courses at the Westminster International University in Tashkent and the “International Law” course at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.
Mr. Khaydarov's expertise includes Democracy and Governance, Development Programming and Policy Advocacy with a specialization in Rule of Law and Constitutional Reforms, Human Rights Based Approach and Social Inclusion, Security Sector Reform/Human Security, Access to Justice and Legal Empowerment, Legislative Strengthening, Public Accountability, and Public Service/Sector Management. His academic works span over Political Science, Parliamentary Development, Aid Effectiveness, Public oversight, Innovation and Leadership in Governance. His areas of expertise are complemented by project and knowledge management, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, media and communication, policy analysis as well as social advocacy experiences.
Mr. Khaydarov is married and has two daughters and two sons.
