Creating favorable life conditions for the people of the Aral Sea region is one of the UNDP mission
December 5, 2022
Thanks to the joint efforts of UNDP and the Government of Uzbekistan, the OPEC and IsDB-funded "Sustainable Rural Development" Project is working to ensure rural people's access to basic infrastructure, health care and education services.
UNDP is strongly committed to engaging the public in identifying problems and needs in their communities through activities aimed at involving rural people in the pilot regions.
During 2022 UNDP conducted 78 workshops with 3126 participants in Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, Navoi and Khorezm regions with the support of UNDP Community Mobilization Facilitators. Participants included 1,849 men, 1,277 women, including 429 youth representatives.
In each community we have created Initiative Groups from among active local residents to implement social projects on the ground.
Now based on priority community needs, UNDP will have submitted 78 Community Development Plans (CDPs) in 78 mahallas of 4 regions by the end of this year.
The CDPs will serve as a basis for the Government of Uzbekistan to improve living conditions for rural people in the Aral Sea region and ensure their access to social infrastructure.
UNDP firmly believe that the active participation of even small communities in the decision-making process will help achieve global sustainable development.
