GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT
The promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment is essential to UNDP’s development approach. At the global level, UNDP launched a new Strategic Plan (2022-2025) and a new Gender Equality Strategy (GES) (2022-2025). At Country Office (CO) level, the new Country Programme Document 2022-2025 was launched in early 2022. These three key strategic documents provide detailed guidance for Viet Nam CO on how to mainstream gender perspectives as they operationalize all aspects of UNDP’s Strategic Plan in Viet Nam.
For UNDP Viet Nam to effectively operationalize gender mainstreaming and to support the achievement of gender equality in Viet Nam, there are two primary targets to focus on:

Gender Equality Seal
In 2016, the CO was awarded the UNDP Gender Equality Silver Seal. Since then, the CO has continued to address numerous gaps, built capacities, and strengthened internal organizational mechanisms as well as deepen gender mainstreaming work in various program interventions in environment, governance, and inclusive growth. In addition, there were several strategic initiatives to promote gender equality such as the campaign to break gender stereotypes in 2017-2018; the development of materials on gender equality training and mentoring programmes to promote women political leadership in partnership with the Ho Chi Minh Political Academy and in 2018-2020; and a dedicated project on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (2021-2022).
The CO is running for a Gender Seal recognition during the period of Apr 2022 – Mar 2023.
