This is our space where we share our transformative work on gender issues
Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment
March 28, 2023
At UNDP, we believe that gender equality is essential for achieving sustainable development and reducing poverty. That is why we are committed to empowering women and promoting gender equality in all aspects of our work. Through our initiatives, we aim to ensure that women and girls have equal access to opportunities, resources, and decision-making power.
In this blog, we will be sharing stories of our work on gender and how it is making a positive impact on the lives of women and girls in Guinea Bissau. We will explore the transformative gender lens, which is a powerful tool for identifying and addressing the underlying causes of gender inequality. By looking beyond the surface-level symptoms of inequality, we can develop more effective and sustainable solutions that promote gender equality and empower women.
We hope that this blog will inspire you to join us in our mission to promote gender equality and empower women in Guinea Bissau. Together, we can build a more just and equal society for all.
At UNDP we stand for gender equality and the end of Bias and all forms of racial discrimination in a cross-cutting way in all our projects. We promote the empowerment of women and the fight against gender-based violence with the support of partners in government, civil society, academia, the private sector and the UN.
As part of our efforts to promote gender equality and empower women in Guinea-Bissau, the UNDP country office has been working on a project to support free and fair elections. This project has a strong focus on gender, with initiatives aimed at increasing women's participation in politics and ensuring that gender perspectives are integrated into electoral processes.
One key aspect of this project has been the Leadership Academy for Female Candidates, which was established to provide training and support for Women candidates in the upcoming legislative elections. The academy offers a comprehensive program that covers topics such as campaign management, public speaking, and policy development. By providing female candidates with the skills and resources they need to run effective campaigns, we hope to increase the number of women in parliament and other leadership positions.
In addition to the Leadership Academy, we have also been working to support the Gender Commission at the National Commission on Elections. By providing institutional support to this commission, we are helping to ensure that gender issues are given the attention they deserve in the electoral process.
Overall, the UNDP Guinea-Bissau country office's elections project is a testament to our commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women. Through initiatives like the Leadership Academy and support for the Gender Commission, we are working to create a more inclusive and representative political system that reflects the diversity of the population. We hope that these efforts will inspire more women to run for office and that they will lead to a more equitable and just society for all.
