April 20, 2023
The Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the NW/SW Regions (PPRD) is embedded in the National Development Strategy 2020-2030 (NDS30), adopted by the Government. The first of the three phases of the PPRD, called "Recovery", was the subject of a project document (PRODOC) between the Government and the UNDP, the implementation partner. The aim of the recovery phase is to address the immediate needs of the affected populations in the NW/SW Regions to restore social cohesion, reconstruct and rehabilitate basic infrastructure, and revitalise the local economy.
The 5th session of the PPRD Steering Committee took place on April 13, 2023, in the Auditorium of the Prime Minister's Office. The highly engaging meeting was chaired by the Minister, Director of Cabinet of the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Balungeli Confiance Ebune, and co-chaired by the Resident Representative of UNDP Cameroon, Mr. Aliou Mamadou Dia. The meeting was attended by institutional members and special invitees, including Ministers, Donors, Diplomats, Governors of the two Regions, Presidents of the Regional Assemblies, Religious Leaders, the Private Sector, and CSOs.
Highlights of the session were the presentation and validation of the PPRD activity report for 2022, which covered over 11.46 billion FCFA; the presentation and adoption of the PPRD new operational strategy and "Social Success Responsibility"; the presentation and adoption of the PPRD monitoring and reporting strategy; and the presentation and adoption of the work plan and budget for the 2023 financial year, with an expected funding of 29,112,000,000 FCFA.
Amidst various feedback and observations from participants, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Balungeli, thanked all actors present for their enormous contributions to the success of the PPRD and encouraged their full involvement and participation for better results, while thanking the UNDP for the great work done in ensuring the quality implementation of the Plan. The UNDP Representative, Mr. Dia, thanked the Government for its confidence and appreciated the collaboration of the actors at various levels for the successful implementation of the Plan. Mr. Dia was joined by the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Matthias Z. Naab to assure the Government and actors of the UN’s unceasing engagement to foster the reconstruction and development activities of the PPRD, and that they will work with the Government to elaborate and implement strategies for the mobilisation of funds to support the Plan.
"While thanking the Government and actors for the confidence in us and the collaboration that allowed us to effectively implement the programme this far, I wish to ensure you of our full and continued engagement in the recovery of the NW and SW regions."
