Strengthening the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory of the Republic of Mauritius to Improve Climate Reporting and Transparency
The CBIT project in Mauritius will contribute to enhance the national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, improving reporting, transparency, and evidence-based policymaking. With this project and support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Mauritius will be able to improve its GHG inventory and strengthen inventory processes, allowing enhanced national reporting to track progress against NDC targets, and revising future targets.
Moreover, this project aims to allow broader institutional engagement from the private sector and civil society in GHG transparency, resulting in enhanced evidence-led policy-making and integration of the inventory in national development policies. The project's three components focus on improving accuracy and localisation of the inventory, strengthening the inventory process, and mainstreaming it for transparency and policy support. These efforts align with Article 13 of the Paris Agreement and will build capacity to meet its provisions

KEY RESULTS EXPECTED
- The first Biennial Transparency Report to be submitted to the UNFCCC
- At least five IPCC sub-categories (among sub-categories 1A1, 1A2, 1A3, 1A4, 1A5, 3A1 and 3B1) use a Tier 2/Tier 3 approach in the national GHG emissions inventory
- At least 60 experts (out of which at least 50% women) trained on 2006 IPCC technologies
- Mauritius will have a roadmap for the implementation of an enhanced institutional architecture for its MRV system
- An Excel template-based model for data collection, processing and submission is operational and used for the collection of data for the estimation of the national GHG emissions inventory
- At least 20 experts (out of which 10 women) have been trained on the use of the IT-based system for inventory preparation
- A report on lessons learnt from the CBIT project in Mauritius will be published and shared in the CBIT Global Platform
