Readout of UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner’s meeting with H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda

The head of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Achim Steiner met with H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda this afternoon at the Kigali Convention Center on the sidelines of the Hanga Pitchfest, which aims to provide a platform to showcase tech-entrepreneurs and creative talents from across Rwanda.
Administrator Steiner emphasized that the United Nations family including UNDP is committed to continue supporting Rwanda’s sustainable development priorities, which includes tackling inequality, supporting the modernization of the economy; and climate action to realize a better future for all.
President Kagame outlined his commitment to advance good governance and anti-corruption as vital ingredients to drive forward Rwanda’s development. President Kagame also noted the need for smart resource mobilization, underlining that resources must benefit the people of Rwanda.
Discussions between Administrator Steiner and President Kagame also touched upon ways to advance youth empowerment and innovation to drive forward development across the Continent of Africa. In this respect, Steiner noted Rwanda's remarkable efforts to nurture tech-enabled start-ups and entrepreneurship and UNDP’s support to that end. “UNDP is proud to be part of this journey towards a brighter, sustainable future for Rwanda”, said Administrator Steiner.
