Young people drive sustainable development: UN volunteers enhance local perspectives

The beginning of March marked a new work start for 26 UN volunteers in eight municipalities across Montenegro.

Engagement in local micro-businesses provides young people with an opportunity to gain their first work experience, as well as competencies for future jobs or entrepreneurship. The youth will also assist employers in enhancing the company's visibility in the market through their understanding of modern technologies and social networks.

Following the open call for employers, a call for young people was also issued, and the 26 most motivated individuals in eight municipalities across Montenegro were given the opportunity to learn about fashion design, journalism, cosmetic services, accounting, catering, and many other sought-after skills of today.

Young people are engaged as UN volunteers in the community, within the youth component of the ReLOaD2 program, aimed at improving the economic prospects of youth and encouraging local governments to develop a sustainable community with the energy and creativity of young citizens.

The Regional Program for Local Democracy in the Western Balkans 2 (ReLOaD2) is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP in partnership with 14 municipalities in Montenegro.
