Luxembourg invests in UNDP to tackle multidimensional development challenges
August 1, 2024
New York — The Government of Luxembourg recently contributed an additional EUR 3 million to UNDP’s core resources (EUR 1.6 million ) and to all four UNDP Funding Windows (EUR 1.4 million) in a fully flexible manner.
This contribution is part of the 2022-2025 Strategic Partnership Framework between Luxembourg and UNDP. It represents the second instalment of a total pledge of EUR 6 million for 2024, following the initial instalment of EUR 3 million made in July 2024. This crucial support highlights Luxembourg's trust in UNDP's mission and reflects its confidence in the organization's capacity to effect meaningful change.
Luxembourg’s contribution will be instrumental in advancing UNDP's mission towards uplifting the world’s least developed countries, eradicating poverty, promoting gender equality, combating climate change and fortifying resilience to crises. The support will help UNDP to accompany countries in their pathways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and respond to emergencies and shocks with agility and speed. Luxembourg’s commitment to flexible, multi-year funding enables coordinated, flexible, and rapid responses to development needs and emergencies worldwide, and demonstrates commitment to implementation of the UN Secretary General’s Funding Compact.
Core resources help strengthen UNDP's oversight and accountability functions and ensure the organization can continue to deliver programmes effectively and efficiently while following the highest standards of transparency. UNDP is consistently rated among the most transparent international organizations.
As we prepare for the Summit of the Future in September, UNDP is diligently working at the global, regional, and country levels to foster breakthroughs that provide countries with the fiscal space and growth pathways needed to make significant progress on the SDGs. The steadfast support of partners like Luxembourg is appreciated and crucial for making this vital work possible.
UNDP looks forward to a continued strong partnership with Luxembourg to tackle multidimensional poverty, promote gender equality, build resilience to crises and climate change, and advance the SDGs.
