Austria invests in UNDP to advance crisis response and sustainable development
August 22, 2024
New York—The Government of Austria has reiterated its continued trust and support in its partnership with UNDP. The contribution of USD 1.22 million (EUR 1,12 million) to UNDP’s regular (core) resource budget for 2024 will enable UNDP to continue responding quickly and flexibly to the development needs of countries affected by disasters and conflict.
UNDP greatly appreciates the government of Austria’s increased support, which supports advancing sustainable development and is essential to help the organization stay and deliver in over 170 countries and territories globally, as well as getting the Sustainable Development Goals back on track by focusing on the most vulnerable and leaving no one behind.
Austria's contributions to UNDP have been instrumental in several priority areas, including upholding human rights, respecting the rule of law, supporting the socio-economic development of communities, implementing climate adaptation and mitigation actions, and building inclusive policies and societies to eradicate poverty. In Albania for example, Austria’s support to UNDP has significantly strengthened the legal and policy framework for effectively implementing and monitoring the free legal aid service provision program, only one of the many tangible results of the Austria-UNDP partnership.
Austria's core contributions also play a critical role in strengthening UNDP’s oversight and accountability functions. They ensure that UNDP’s programs are delivered effectively, efficiently, and transparently, reinforcing its commitment to accountability. UNDP consistently ranks as one of the most transparent international organizations.
UNDP looks forward to continuing its close collaboration with Austria on the joint mission for a more equitable and prosperous world where no one is left behind.
