The UNDP Seoul Policy Centre hosted a career session led by Jean-Luc Marcelin, UNDP’s Talent Acquisition and Partnerships Specialist on 5 November 2024 in collaboration with Korea University and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. With the aim to inspire students and professionals aspiring to develop careers within the UN, UNDP, and other international organizations, the event offered the opportunity to explore the diverse UN system, the qualifications required for international roles, and insights into the career progression within the UN.

Mr. Marcelin shared insider perspectives on entry points and pathways within the UN to an audience of over 100 participants, highlighting essential skills and experiences that enhance candidacy, such as intercultural awareness, field exposure, and relevant academic and volunteer experience. Emphasizing UNDP’s commitment to sustainable development and its global presence, he explained how each UN agency offers unique opportunities based on its mandate, which prospective applicants should carefully consider when carving out their career path.

Throughout the session, Mr. Marcelin offered practical guidance on the UNDP recruitment process, including tailoring applications to specific job requirements, developing competency-based interview skills, and maximizing volunteer roles and internships to build a robust CV. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where attendees engaged with Mr. Marcelin on actionable advice for creating meaningful impact for global development.
