GHG Emissions in Pakistan’s Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Sector
GHG Emissions in Pakistan’s Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Sector
November 16, 2021
In last decade a steep growth has been observed in the RAC industry in Pakistan. The major factors behind the increased cooling and refrigeration demand include the increase in population, rising temperatures and heat waves, and increased economic activity. This report presents the results obtained with the direct and indirect Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions from refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) equipment in Pakistan, and `the results on avoided emissions that could be obtained comparing a Business as Usual (BAU) scenario with a mitigation strategy or policy scenario. This RAC greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory gives a picture of GHG emissions from refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) in Pakistan, and it could be used to help Pakistan meet its climate goals by implementing emission reduction measures in the RAC sector. As a whole, the findings in this report will serve as guiding document for Pakistan´s climate change mitigation policy, energy efficiency and conservation in RAC equipment, and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
