Reconstruction & Rehabilitation of shelters for flood-affected community

The village Khan Mohammad Dinarzai in Gharibabad area of District Kacchi almost got wiped off the face of the earth in the flood. Khuda Bakhsh and his family were at a loss and did not know how to rebuild their lives. He lived inside a large compound of mud houses, along with his extended family. They found themselves under an open sky.

UNDP, under its Flood Recovery Programme, provided cash-for-work grants to the most flood-impacted families, including, Khuda Bakhsh and his family, to help them get back on their feet.

The cash grant will facilitate the beneficiaries to purchase equipment for reconstructing their shelters. The funds will enable them to reconstruct 41,000 cubic feet of accommodation. The community is now working together, rebuilding their lives bit by bit.

The intervention is part of UNDP’s Flood Recovery Programme. Aligned with the Government of Pakistan's Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Framework (4RF), UNDP's Flood Recovery Programme aims to restore housing and community infrastructure, livelihoods, and government services while building disaster resistance and ensuring environmental protection.
