The latest Human Development Index update emphasizes the significant repercussions of mishandling interdependencies, notably seen in climate change impacts and escalating global conflicts. Despite acknowledging our interconnectedness, addressing these shared challenges proves elusive, intensifying a 'global gridlock' fueled by polarization. To spur progress, the Human Development Report 2023/24 “Breaking the gridlock: Reimagining cooperation in a polarized world” advocates focusing on bridging agency gaps, mitigating polarization, and establishing innovative frameworks for global public goods.

Aligned with these directives, panel sessions will explore themes such as confronting global polarization and crafting resilient financing structures for global public goods. These discussions aim to offer actionable insights and strategies to navigate the complexities of our uncertain times effectively.

The Korea launch of 2023/24 HDR will be hosted in Seoul on 23 May 2024 by UNDP Seoul Policy Centre in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Korea University, and UNDP's Human Development Report Office. Key findings will be shared, bringing together an expert panel who will discuss the report from various perspectives.
