As in the rest of the world, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is casting a long shadow across Africa with spikes in food and fuel prices, trade disruption and macroeconomic instability impacting most of the continent and posing severe pressure on already vulnerable populations. But the long-term consequences of the invasion are likely to transcend beyond economic and social outcomes.

This seminar will explore the impacts of Russia’s war in Ukraine on governance, peace and security in Africa and discuss how we can work together to build resilience and address the rising needs for investment in future development on the continent.

What steps do we need to take collectively to strengthen African capacities to build a peaceful and stable continent? How do we ensure meaningful engagement of youth and women as agents of change and champions of peace and stability? And how can a reframing of development finance reduce the vulnerability of many African countries to external shocks?
