Study tour to Germany helps boosting the capacities in lean manufacturing and digital transformation in Türkiye

The 1st Strategic Planning Workshop for Model Factories was successfully held on 1-2 November 2024 as part of the Applied SME Capability Center - Model Factory Project carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Technology in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This workshop gathered directors and trainers from 10 Model Factories across Türkiye to envision the future of these centers.

Visiting technology hubs of Stuttgart and Aachen known for their innovative industrial and technological developments, the delegation explored cutting-edge models of digital innovation and lean manufacturing. These cities were selected based on several criteria aligned with the project’s focus on innovation and research excellence and Türkiye’s industrial goals. 

The delegation visited Stuttgart hosted 42nd Motek International Trade Fair for Automation in Production and Assembly, showcasing advancements in automation, digital solutions, and innovative production technologies. Additionally, the city’s robust R&D ecosystem allowed participants to witness the latest technologies and best practices in digital transformation and automation. The delegation visited Fraunhofer IPA and Fraunhofer IAO Institutes, which are focused on industrial engineering and manufacturing automation, TRUMPF Smart Factories in Ditzingen to practice a leading example of smart factory operations and automation.

In Aachen, the delegation toured McKinsey & Company’s Innovation & Learning Center and the Fraunhofer IPT Institute for Production Technology, which provided insights into leading production methodologies, automation solutions, and strategies for industrial efficiency.

The tour proved instrumental in establishing a strong foundation for continued exchange and collaboration. Key objectives included understanding Germany’s approach to industrial innovation, gaining insights into technology diversification for Model Factories, and examining advanced digital solutions adaptable for SMEs in Türkiye. 

This visit is anticipated to significantly boost the impact of Model Factories further aligning Türkiye’s industrial practices with global standards in digital technology and lean manufacturing.
