UNDP supports the development of the new Concept of Turkmenistan in the field of Waste Management

Ashgabat, 22 July 2022: Today, in the framework of the joint project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan “Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Green Urban Development in Ashgabat and Avaza”, a working meeting was held aimed at providing a platform for strategic discussions and exchange of experience in the field of waste management and rational use of natural resources, as well as the protection of the ozone layer.
The agenda of the working meeting includes discussion and receiving comments from government agencies involved in the waste management to finalize and present a new Concept of Turkmenistan in the field of waste management, developed with the support of UNDP. The participants were also informed about the process of implementing the provisions of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol in Turkmenistan.
The development of strategic documents in the field of ecology at the national level and their phased introduction makes a special contribution to the implementation of the country's modern policy in the field of environmental protection. The development of the new sectoral programmes and regulatory legal acts is aimed at reducing the negative impact of anthropogenic activities on the environment.
