Plastic Waste Management at the local level
Project Summary
Changing attitudes to waste management is a precondition for averting risks and negative consequences for nature resulting from the use of plastic. This project is aimed at raising awareness about these risks and consequences, as well as about business opportunities related to the reuse of plastic.
By informing the population about the circular economy, the Project intends to change opinions about plastic and launch new business initiatives linked to its recycling/reuse.
The Project aims to inform the public and support small- and medium-size enterprises that are engaged in the reuse of plastic.
Project Goals
The project consists of two components:
Developing a business case for using plastics as a secondary material in Ukraine
This component includes the following:
- engaging experts and developing a stakeholder map;
- assessing available and potential infrastructure for existing and future business initiatives related to plastic recycling/reuse;
- conducting expert consultations;
- creating a business case, which will be the basis of the final project report, with key findings and recommendations provided.
Awareness Raising Campaign for Behavioural Change in the field of waste management
This component includes the following:
- developing training materials;
- selecting and engaging targeted local communities in training sessions on waste management;
- creating communication materials and conducting events for targeted audiences;
- developing and disseminating informational materials for raising awareness and decreasing the use of plastic in targeted communities.
Expected Results
- Business case for using plastics as secondary materials is developed;
- Awareness is raised about the negative impact of plastics on the environment, as well as about business opportunities related to their recycling/reuse;
- Leakage of plastic into natural systems of Ukraine is reduced as a result of avoiding its use, recycling, or reusing it.
