Strengthening the Capacities of the National Police of Ukraine on the Reunification of Families in Ukraine
This project is designed to bolster the forensic capabilities of Ukraine’s National Police as part of the broader "The Ukraine Family Reunification Initiative."
Project goal
The ultimate goal of the project is to strengthen the capacities of the National Police to apply DNA identification approaches to ensure the reunification of Ukrainian children with their families.
To achieve this goal, the project will provide comprehensive support to the National Police for applying DNA identification techniques and establishing a foundation for a systematic approach to child reunification with families, encompassing enhanced technical capacities, database development, improved skills of forensic units, and increased awareness among war-affected individuals.
The project is funded by the government of the Netherlands.
As of this project, the following key activities will be implemented:
- Strengthening the technical capacities of the National Police for quickly taking DNA samples;
- Analysis of international experience and best practices of the creation and functioning of databases and verification systems of human genomic information that will help to update the national database for the purpose of family reunification;
- Enhancing the knowledge and skills of the forensic experts of the National Police for collecting and documenting DNA data.
