About us
Who are we?
The UNDP Sub-Regional Hub for West and Central Africa (UNDP WACA) is at the forefront of accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in West and Central Africa. Our multidimensional approach encompasses promoting good governance, fostering sustainable livelihoods, tackling climate change, enhancing community resilience, driving structural transformation, and eradicating poverty.
Through a tailored blend of strategic policy support, innovative programming, robust partnerships, and comprehensive capacity-building initiatives, UNDP WACA plays a pivotal role in shaping a more resilient and prosperous future for the sub-region.
It is one of three regional hubs couched within UNDP's Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA) and the Regional Bureau for Africa, providing specialised support to 24 countries which range from high and middle-income economies to least-developed countries and those in crisis and post-crisis settings.
UNDP WACA supports implementing the Regional Programme for Africa and contributes to attaining a more resilient, prosperous region by focusing our programmatic delivery on four key priorities: people, prosperity, planet and peace.
Our Footprint
Situated in Dakar, Senegal, UNDP WACA builds strategic alliances and partnerships with the African Union Commission (AUC), Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Mechanisms (RMs) and partners in the region to the lay the groundwork for the delivery of development ambitions at country and sub-regional levels, including the SDGs and the African Union's Agenda 2063.
Our Programmatic Portfolio
UNDP has been a leader in human development for many decades. Each year, we help millions of people live resilient and productive lives. At the centre of our work is the UNDP Strategic Plan 2022 - 2025, which represents our intent to complement the efforts of countries in realising the SDGs.
In West and Central Africa, our portfolio consists of governance and peacebuilding, youth, climate resilience and livelihoods, human mobility and economic recovery, all of which are driven by our dedicated support to country offices in the region.
