Integrated development solutions driven by country priorities and UNDP’s new Strategic Plan.

France is one of UNDP’s top 14 partners contributing to our core funding, which enables us to respond quickly and flexibly when crises strike, pioneer and spread new ideas to address extreme poverty and to get the most out of every dollar spent. It allows us to work with those who need our help the most from Day One. Core resources underpin UNDP’s operational capacity, networks and presence at global, regional and country levels, in 170 countries and territories.

On the ground in 170 countries, UNDP works hand-in-hand with French actors to to prevent and mitigate crisis, to strengthen governance and rule of law, fight against climate change and protect biodiversity, to strengthen gender equality and provide opportunities for women and youth, in line with the priorities of the new French legislation to support development and inequalities reduction.

Through core funding and thanks to France contribution, UNDP achieved in 2022 the following results:

France’s support is making a concrete difference to people’s lives by helping to stabilize societies and strengthen institutions. In 2022-2023:

Ukraine: French funding has also contributed to UNDP's recovery support program in Ukraine, aimed at strengthening community resilience. UNDP's support focuses on restoring and delivering public services, including rehabilitating health, energy and education facilities, strengthening community security and public safety, and improving local social cohesion.  

In collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, UNDP has also ensured the continuity of essential government services to people displaced by war, via digital services accessed by nearly 9 million people. UNDP has also supported the private sector in Ukraine, helping to ensure the continuity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Moldova: The French government and the UNDP are supporting the extension of access to basic public services for Ukrainian refugees and host communities in Moldova. The partnership with the DAECT also aims to develop cooperation between local authorities, particularly in the fields of access to water, sanitation and waste management in several partner localities.

Libya: Through the Stabilization Facility supported by Franch, which has enabled the return of internally displaced persons to the Tripoli region, and organised inclusive and transparent elections at national and local levels, the project has implementated 370 projects in 24 municipalities, in addition to 20 projects as part of the COVID-19 response. Notable results include restoration of water, sewerage, electricity and lighting systems, as well as the provision of water and sanitation services, electricity and lighting systems, as well as improved access to education and healthcare. 

24 Libyan civil society organizations were also supported to reduce the risk of conflict and provide psychosocial support. Following the catastrophic floods of September 2023 in the Derna region, France also announced a EUR 2 million grant to support the region's recovery and strengthen local capacities in resilience and risk prevention and management.

Yemen: UNDP is working with various institutions to restore essential services and create livelihoods for over 35,2000 people affected by the conflict. Through its support for the "Peace Support Facility", France supports UNDP activities aimed at achieving concrete and rapid improvements in the lives of the population, in order to build confidence between the parties to engage fully in the peace process (e.g. through the rehabilitation of the port of Hodeïda). France also contributed to the success of the operation to salvage the oil tanker FSO-Safer.

Sahel: Through its regional "Regeneration" program and its Stabilization Facilities (in the Lake Chad Basin and Liptako-Gourma), UNDP focuses on three key dimensions: local governance, support for youth, and access to renewable energies to create decent, green jobs and livelihoods.
