Energy Efficiency Standards and Labeling in Jordan
Energy Efficiency Standards and Labeling in Jordan
This project involves the electrical side of energy (as opposed to transportation, natural gas for heating or cooking etc…) for residential purposes, covering approximately 40% of Jordan’s total electrical consumption as of 2011. Jordan faces considerable energy challenges at the supply level such that 96-98% of the raw material required to generate electricity is imported from neighboring countries. This has caused the country to consider its options in regards to reducing the overall energy consumption. Most energy projects in the country tend to cover the supply side, this project takes the innovative approach of considering the supply side (ie. consumer). Specifically, increasing the penetration rate of energy efficient home appliances (air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators and freezers) in Jordanian homes is the approach this project will follow to achieve its goal
