Implementation of the National Traffic Strategy
Project Overview
This project brings UNDP in partnership with Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior (MOI) and the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development (GSSCPD) to support the implementation of a national traffic strategy in Kuwait, developing the policies and capacities for more effective governance, and advancing human capital to ensure wellbeing for all at all ages, with the aim of contributing to the UN Target of halving the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents by the year 2020.
The project provides support in strengthening national capacities in managing traffic data as well as the development of technical and administrative capacities. This is accomplished through implementing initiatives to automate internal process and to enhance the efficiency and delivery of services to the public. Through its work on implementation of e-government initiatives within the General Department of Traffic, the project indirectly addresses the issues of air pollution and public health.
Project Highlights
The project’s achievements and contributions include the development of the Kuwait Road Accident Data Management System and the training and development of skills of 50 staff in the General Department of Traffic and the General Department of Investigation, in the field of traffic investigation.
Additionally, the project’s ongoing work involves expanding the implementation of electronic correspondence system, introducing electronic processes for document archiving, and modernizing driving license services including the introduction of new delivery channel of driving license services and development of electronic platform for managing training activities for the General Department of Traffic.
