The Preliminary Assessment of the Regulatory Framework and Policy Coherence regarding Responsible Business Conduct in Lao PDR assesses the current status of legislation and regulation in Lao PDR in the context of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). 

The Preliminary Assessment utilises the UNGPs as the primary normative framework to analyse current laws and decrees in order to identify gaps and propose recommendations to enable the effective implementation of the UNGPs across the different economic sectors. The Preliminary Assessment covers the following seven thematic areas relevant to responsible business conduct:  

(1) corporate and investment laws,  

(2) labour laws,  

(3) environment and land laws,  

(4) laws related to marginalized and vulnerable groups,  

(5) anti-corruption laws,  

(6) industry sector-specific laws, 

(7) laws related to remedy.
