‘Baseline Assessment on National Use of Chemicals and Associated Risks’ Launched

26 December 2022: Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem (O.D.R.M.D) and Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology H.E. Aminath Shauna has launched the ‘Baseline Assessment on National Use of Chemicals and Associated Risks’ developed under the ‘Eliminating POPs Through Sound Management of Chemicals’ Project, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Programme in the Maldives.
The assessment aims to identify all significant industries, sectors, and stakeholders based on their chemical usage and identify the main challenges to Maldives's effective chemical management.
“There is a need to focus on the the blind spots of waste issues in Maldives. Little is known on Persistent Organic Pollutants yet chemicals spread into the environment impact in a big way our health and the nature,” said UNDP Resident Representative in the Maldives, Enrico Gaveglia at the launch.
