Localized Liveability Index for Hulhumalé Launched in Collaboration with Urbanco

August 10, 2023

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Maldives, in collaboration with Urbanco, has launched the first-ever localized Liveability Index in the country.

This innovative Liveability Index was specifically developed for Hulhumalé, the largest artificial residential city in the Maldives. It assesses five crucial pillars: social inclusivity, economic and environmental sustainability, good governance, and technology and innovation.

"The Liveability Index collects administrative data and captures the real-time perceptions of citizens. It serves as a powerful tool for guiding future investments and informing strategic policy-making through a digital platform," said Enrico Gaveglia, Resident Representative of UNDP in Maldives.

The development of this Liveability Index was a collaborative effort involving the Hulhumalé community and various stakeholders. This initiative empowers urban planners and policymakers with data-driven insights, ultimately contributing to the creation of a safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable city.
