16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM
Gender Talks
November 22, 2023
We’re presented with important dates that call for reflection on our shared human rights journey. While we’ve made progress towards gender equality, challenges persist, especially in the face of emerging global crises. This year’s 16 Days of Activism is a unique opportunity to advance the gender equality agenda, given the subtle yet significant backlashes.
UNDP is excited to present GENDER EQUALITY TALKS, a series of events focusing on key issues:
On 24 November, at the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, we launch the campaign with a focus on investments in the prevention of gender-based violence.
On 30 November, at the Museum and Gallery of Podgorica, we discuss violence against women with disabilities, emphasizing structural barriers.
On 5 December, in Kolašin, we pay tribute to the women's movement in Montenegro and celebrate its 80th anniversary.
On 6 December, in the Parliament of Montenegro, we talk about the role of women in politics and the promotion of gender equality.
We are particularly pleased to announce that on 5 December at the Cultural Center in Kolašin and on 6 December at the Montenegrin National Theatre, the play "Political History of Women in Montenegro" will be performed once again. This play, based on historical material, provides an authentic overview of the development of women's rights in Montenegro. The director is Marija Perović, and the cast includes Kristina Obradović, Jelena Đukić, and Milica Šćepanović. The play premiered in 2016, marking 70 years since women gained the right to vote, and received exceptional reactions. The additional value of the play lies in its educational character.
This year, we are marking the campaign in partnership with the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, the EU Delegation to Montenegro, and the Embassies of Austria and the Czech Republic, as well as in collaboration with numerous other partners who have supported this year's Gender Equality Talks.
