Democratic Governance
Democratic Governance
Papua New Guinea (PNG) has had uninterrupted democratic Government since its independence in 1975, but the country’s governance institutions and processes remain insufficient to be fully responsive to the needs of ordinary Papua New Guineans, and to promote equitable development and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), in particular for the most excluded and marginalized groups in society.
Under the Democratic Governance portfolio comprise three projects; Preventing and Countering Corruption in Papua New Guinea Project (PNG Anti-Corruption Project), the Provincial Capacity Building (PCaB) programme and the Parliamentary Support Project working closely together with the Bougainville House of Representative and the Papua New Guinea National Parliament.
These projects are focused on enhancing skills, highlighting importance of strengthening partnerships for good governance, transparency and accountability.
