UNDP promotes financing for sustainable development

Ashgabat, November 11, 2022: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Turkmenistan jointly with the Regional platform on Sustainable Development Goals in Central Asia, funded by the European Union (EU) is cooperating with the Government of Turkmenistan on the development finance issues, including assistance in conducting a Development Finance Assessment (DFA), within the efforts to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country.
Within the above-mentioned regional project’s country component on Turkmenistan the visit of the UNDP International Expert, Mr. Levon Barkhudaryan was organized. UNDP facilitated a broad dialogue entailing a series of consultations with the representatives of the Ministries and entities of Turkmenistan, as well as the private sector of the country to discuss the preparation of a Report on the development finance assessment (DFA). During the meetings, such priority areas of development as the fiscal and monetary policies, statistical reporting, development and support of the private sector, investment climate, and the envisioned public finance system reforms of Turkmenistan were discussed.
The presentation of the final report of the DFA is expected at the next meeting of the Joint Expert Group on SDG Financing between the UN and the Government of Turkmenistan to be held on 11 November 2022.

The joint project between UNDP and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan “Partnering for SDG acceleration”, launched in 2018, is a joint platform for coordinating the work of the relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and UN agencies in the implementation of the SDGs. Currently, the second phase of the project is being implemented, which aims at increasing the capacity of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan as a responsible body for coordinating activities to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.
