New York, Hamburg, 14 December 2021: The EU-LAC International Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a strategic framework cooperation agreement in order to join efforts in 2022 to reinforce the integration and collaboration between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean towards the implementation of the sustainable development goals.
In view of the current global challenges, UNDP and EU-LAC Foundation will work closely to analyse national, regional and multilateral experiences used to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and shed light on policies and best practices, as well as effective instruments for bi-regional cooperation, to support recovery efforts.
Moreover, by exploring existing and new mechanisms and instruments for regional, triangular, and bi-regional cooperation, the UNDP and the EU-LAC Foundation seek to increase technical capacities and promote the transition towards more sustainable and resilient economic, social and environmental policies.
This renewed partnership, builds on the results of the 2021 dialogues on sustainable tourism which sought to foster bi-regional exchange of ideas among policymakers, entrepreneurs, civil society and researchers about the necessary conditions to move towards a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism sector that can contribute to the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda.
