Singapore’s Approach to Food Resilience: Building Enabling Ecosystem for Novel Agrifood Technologies
September 24, 2024
As a small and densely populated city-state with a small farming sector and extremely limited land available for conventional agriculture, Singapore relies heavily on imports for its supply of food. These constraints have spurred the development of a supportive novel agrifood technologies ecosystem to build food security and navigate challenges such as supply chain disruptions caused by climate change, extreme weather events, natural disasters, and geopolitical developments.
The UNDP Singapore Global Centre, with the support of Singapore’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, has produced this article to examine how the country is building an enabling ecosystem for novel agrifood technologies. Emphasising multi-stakeholder approach, cross-sector collaboration, and robust governance, Singapore’s approach to food resilience can offer a valuable blueprint for other countries facing similar challenges.
