The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Saudi Human Rights Commission (SHRC), organized a one-day workshop on “Human Rights as part of the Saudi Vision 2030, and the UN Sustainable Development Agenda for SDG’s” was organized on the 2nd May 2019 at the premises of the Saudi Human Rights Commission in Riyadh. The objective of the workshop was to increase the awareness of government officials of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda and their inter-relation with the Saudi Vision 2030 and most importantly with human rights.
Fifty six key government officials participated in the workshop (29 Females and 27 males) from: the Family Council, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Commerce and Investment, Members of the Shura Council, Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Public Investment Fund, Ministry of Justice, the Capital Market Authority, the National Family Safety Program, Ministry of Housing, the King Khalid Foundation, Ministry of Health, the General Authority for Statistics, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Environment Water and Agriculture, Ministry of Civil Service, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Industry and Minerals, Ministry of Labor and Social Development, Ministry of Education, General Investment Authority, ministry of Islamic Affairs, endowments and Guidance, Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Media. The Delegation of the European Union in the KSA also participated in the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by the President of the SHRC with contributions of experts from: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the OHCHR Technical Cooperation Programme, the SHRC, and the Ministry of Economy and Planning. The sessions of the workshop covered the following topics: An Overview on the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda, Human rights within the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda, Human rights within the Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, and Monitoring and Evaluating the progress of implementing SDG’s in the Kingdom, and two panel discussions.
