Climate Change Action Plan for the Agricultural Sector
November 13, 2024
The Climate Change Action Plan for the Agricultural Sector 2023 - 2027 Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (CCAPA), is the first version of a plan that sets targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, demonstrating the agricultural sector's commitment to achieving the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) established by the country. The Long-Term Low Greenhouse Gas Emission Development Strategy aims for Thailand to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050 and reach net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2065.
The development of the Climate Change Action Plan for the Agricultural Sector 2023 - 2027 Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has undergone a comprehensive planning process, considering the implementation results of the Agricultural Strategic Plan for Climate Change 2017 - 2022 (ASPCC). Additionally, the development process also concerns the alignment of various plans at different levels, climate change scenarios, the impact on the agricultural sector, greenhouse gas emissions, international practices, relevant research findings, executive or expert in-depth interviews, practical workshops with stakeholders, and public hearings.
The development of the Climate Change Action Plan for the Agricultural Sector 2023 - 2027 Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives was supported by the Scaling up Climate Ambition on Land Use and Agriculture through nationally determined contributions and National Adaptation Plans (SCALA) project, under cooperation between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It is hoped that this action plan will greatly benefit the agricultural sector's efforts and contribute to its effectiveness in addressing national food security and promoting sustainability in the agricultural sector.
