- Theme: Investing for Gender Equality and Inclusive Climate Action
- Organizers: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in partnership with Government of Türkiye
What:
UNDP and OECD are hosting this year's second policy dialogue in the Istanbul Development Dialogues (IDD) series, focusing on "Investing for Gender Equality and Inclusive Climate Action." This two-day dialogue brings together over 160 leaders, policymakers, civil society, private sector, academia, and development partners to discuss strategies for achieving a fair transition to a low-carbon economy. The event calls to recognize that gender equality is critical for climate action and that investments in this area need to be scaled up, particularly as the world prepares for COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan this November.
Why:
The dialogue will address the realities that women are not represented and included equally in tackling climate change, and a just transition to low-carbon economies requires women’s leadership and equal participation in climate action. Key discussions will focus on integrating gender equality into climate policies, advancing women’s roles in STEM, creating inclusive care economies, and expanding access to green jobs and climate finance. Such efforts are essential for inclusive and effective implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and to fulfil the commitments under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement.
Who:
- Ivana Živković, Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administrator, and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (RBEC), UNDP
- Ulrik Vestergaard Knudsen, Deputy Secretary-General, OECD
- Ambassador Gülsun Erkul, Acting Director-General of Energy, Environment and Transboundary Waters, Representative of the Government of Türkiye
- Raquel Lagunas, Global Director for Gender Equality, UNDP
- Nigar Arpadai, UN Climate Change High Level Champion for COP 29

- How to integrate gender equality into climate policies and actions.
- Ensuring a just transition that includes investments in gender-responsive solutions.
- Addressing the gender gap in STEM sectors and creating green job opportunities.
