UNDP is committed to helping countries reimagine and strengthen more inclusive, resilient, and adaptive democratic processes and institutions built on democratic principles and values. Alongside the provision of electoral and parliamentary development assistance, we prioritize women’s political participation and support the development of an enabling environment for civil society organizations and independent media. UNDP considers democratic governance to be a key ingredient of a resilient social contract and helps to enlarge peoples’ choices and freedoms, providing the enabling environment for sustainable development to progress and be sustained. 

UNDP works with countries worldwide to strengthen their democratic institutions and processes so that they can respond to the expectations of all people. This work area includes democratic futures, electoral cycle support, parliamentary development, and women’s political participation.
