Integrating governance principles in development
Governance enables the achievement of a broad spectrum of essential development objectives while addressing some of the fundamental obstacles to sustainable development, such as exclusion and inequality. Given that governance systems underpin delivery across all aspects of UNDP’s work, it is necessary to have mechanisms and capacities that ensure these systems are inclusive, accountable, and effective. UNDP is committed to operationalizing the Principles of Effective Governance for Sustainable Development that have been endorsed by the United Nations Economic and Social Council to assist interested countries in building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels, within the framework of the 2030 Agenda.
UNDP provides support to countries across a range of rapidly evolving contexts and governance models, all of which are underpinned by the principles of effective governance that place people and the planet at the centre of policy.
