LocationsUNDP Collaborates with Ministry of Finance for SDG Budget Tagging in the Maldives

Government budgets are one of the primary tools for advancing progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the national level and implementing the Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF). The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and its partners provide a range of support to countries to strengthen their budgeting processes, boosting efficiency, impact and alignment to the SDGs.
Supported by UNDP, the Ministry of Finance began work on conducting SDG Budget Tagging.
In alignment with the Maldives’ INFF, this will help the Government of Maldives to assess resources for sustainable development and identify areas for additional prioritization of the SDGs.
The SDG budget tagging goes beyond alignment of public finance towards the Agenda2030. It contributes to identify across sectors where efforts are made to build country resilience and decrease vulnerability towards external shocks.
