Measuring multidimensional poverty in Eastern Europe and Central Asia: A scoping study

The way we measure poverty shapes our approach to tackling it. Traditional monetary measures often miss the complexities of poverty, which is why the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) offers a more comprehensive understanding. This new approach is crucial for addressing persistent poverty and the risk of poverty in Europe and Central Asia (ECA).
Our latest report, "UNDP Scoping Study on Approaches to Measuring Multidimensional Poverty in ECIS Region," fills a critical knowledge gap. It tracks the composition and characteristics of multidimensional poverty across ECA countries and proposes dimensions for building National MPIs. The study provides actionable recommendations to help countries develop their own multidimensional poverty indices, aiming to transform both our understanding and actions towards eradicating poverty. Additionally, this Scoping Study aims to drive determined policymaking and help overcome the greatest challenges to human development in the region and beyond.
